Kamon

The kamon is a Japanese crest introduced to the island nation during the eleventh century. Originally they were very stylized motifs used to adorm the clothing of high ranking courtier families. Over the centuries these crests experienced many stylistic and symbolic changes. The waarior class adapted the use of kamon from the aristocrats, choosing to add new simplified designs that aided in recognition. Post warrior class usage saw the kamon experience more changes. Designs were now more symmetrical and often found use in formal wear. It wasn't until the nineteeth century that the kamon found widespread usage in all class of Japanese society. The crest once symbolic of aristocratic families was now a common identifying mark for corproations, small businesses, cities and trademarks.

The Butterfly

The butterfly is a powerful symbol of change and transformation. The butterfly represents freedom and creativity in some cultures, while in other cultures the butterfly is a symbol of secrecy. For anyone experiencing a major change in his or her life the butterfly represents a metamorphosis, a rebirth.
