The Rose
In an age lost to the mist of antiquity, legend told of Eros, the Greek God of Love, securing the secrets of the gods’ hidden weaknesses in exchange for a rose. Over the centuries the rose became the symbol of silence and secrecy. In medieval times it was the custom to suspend the rose from the ceilings of council chambers and the council members pledged never to reveal those things discussed beneath the rose, hence the term for secrecy, sub-rosa, under the rose.
The Dagger
The dagger has long been a symbol of honor and discreet power. Protectors in past ages relied on the dagger and their skill of arms to defend their charges. Today the dagger has been replaced by education, advanced training and modern tools of the trade. The emphasis is on intellect and service rather than force, yet the dagger aptly represents the code of honor to which we as protectors adhere, and the proud traditions of our profession.
